Membership Benefits

Welcome to the Membership Benefits page of Calderfield Bowling Club. Our goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals of all skill levels to enjoy the sport of crown green bowling. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced bowler wanting to enhance your skills, we have something to offer for everyone.

Beginner Bowling Sessions

Our club offers informal beginner bowling sessions led by some of our more experienced members. These are arranged on an ad hoc basis at a time and date to suit you and either on an empty green or with other club members. These sessions are currently provided free of charge, with time generously donated by our club members. You will learn the basic fundamentals of crown green bowling, including proper technique, rules of the game, and strategies to improve your performance on the green. It doesn't matter if you are a total beginner or an intermediate player, each session will be tailored to the individuals specific needs and requirements. From practice games to hints and tips on how to tailor a practice session, you dictate the pace and content!

We will also show you how to properly mark a game scorecard (we're always looking for good markers, even if you don't yet feel confident enough to play competitively at this time!)

Social Events

In addition to our bowling services, we also host a variety of social events throughout the year.

We have a series of fortnightly club tournaments (which we call "Mains"), held usually on a Sunday afternoon, where members are free to come and join in (or simply spectate) and compete for various comemorative cups and shields.

Members are free, and in fact encouraged, to contribute picnic style snacks for some of these events.

Our club's active social calendar provides members with opportunities to connect with fellow bowlers and enjoy a sense of community both on and off the green.

We also run a number of club fund-raising events, such as raffles, quiz evenings and get together to raise much needed funds to support the upkeep of the club and it's facilities.

Our Clubhouse and onsite facilities

The upkeep of our clubhouse and green is carried out by volunteer club members and funded by membership fees, monies raised through fund-raising events and generous member donations.

There is currently a team of three volunteer greenkeepers who aim to keep the green in tip-top condition (!), although some of winter green treatments are carried out by professional third parties funded by the club. We're always looking for additional volunteers to help keep things in order, ranging from general tidy-ups to mowing the green. In the case of the latter, full instructions will be provided on the use and operation of our mower.
